Kim Smith

Kim Smith Honda congratulates standout Kim Smith of Providence College, who has been named the nation's most outstanding athlete in track & field by the Collegiate Women Sports Awards.
 
Smith, a senior, won the NCAA indoor championships at both 3,000 and 5,000 meters, setting collegiate records in both events with times of 8:49.18 (the old mark was set in 1983) and 15:14.18 (old mark: 1991), respectively.
 
She was Big East indoor champion at 3,000 meters (8:55.88) and ran the fastest indoor mile by a collegian this season (4:30.61). She set the collegiate outdoor record in the 5,000 meters at 15:09.72 in a victory at the Mt. Sac Relays (old mark: 1985).
 
At the NCAA East Regional, she won the 5,000 meters in 15:51.03. At the Big East Outdoor Championships, Smith won the 10,000 meters in 33:45.81. She was named Indoor Track Athlete of the Year by the Coaches Association.
