For the second consecutive year, Seimone Augustus, a senior from Louisiana State University, wins the Honda Award in Basketball. Recently named as the #1 draft pick for the WNBA (Minnesota Lynx), Augustus shot 57 percent from the field and 46 percent from three-point range over the 2005-2006 season.
During her senior year, Augustus was named the National Player of the Year by the Associated Press, and won the State Farm Wade Trophy, the Naismith Award and John R. Wooden Award as the nation's top player. Augustus was named the SEC Player of the Year, first team All-American and first team All-SEC. She was also named to the SEC All-Tourney team for the fourth year in a row. Augustus scored in double digits in 132 out of 140 games, setting an NCAA record. She finished her career with 2,702 points and was the NCAA's active scoring leader this past season.
